Happy Feet HD 2006

As movie makers prepare this weekend to release "Happy Feet," about an animated Emperor who loves to dance, and the Hallmark Channel readies the cable-television premier of the documentary "March of the Penguins" on Sat., Nov. 25, 2006, the National Science Foundation (NSF) is making available B-roll of the penguins in Antarctica. The agency is also offering journalists the opportunity to ask Antarctic researchers questions about why the birds still challenge the scientific mind.

Some adults may be troubled by the depiction of humans as despoilers of nature; if a happy ending does suggest that humans can listen to their better natures and make responsible choices, such choices are by definition environmentalist ones.

Happy Feet is a 2006 computer-animated musical comedy film directed, produced, and co-written by George Miller. It stars the voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Hugo Weaving, and E.G. Daily. An international co-production between the United States and Australia, the film was produced at Sydney-based visual effects and animation studio Animal Logic for Warner Bros., Village Roadshow Pictures, and Kingdom Feature Productions, and was released in North American theaters on November 17, 2006. It is the first animated film produced by Kennedy Miller and Animal Logic.

Happy Feet is a jukebox musical, taking previously recorded songs and workin' them into the film's soundtrack to fit with the mood of the scene or character. Two soundtrack albums were released for the film; one containing songs from and inspired by the film, and another featuring John Powell's instrumental score. They were released on October 31, 2006 and December 19, 2006, respectively.

Happy Feet is a Game Boy Advance platformer based on the 2006 animated movie of the same name. It features surprisingly good-sounding renditions of I Wish, Jump N' Move, Boogie Wonderland, Shake Your Booty and Groove is in the Heart.

Happy Feet is a 2006 American-Australian computer-animated musical movie. It was made in Australia. The movie was directed and co-written by George Miller. It was released in North America in November 2006. While it is mostly animated, some scenes do include live-action. Happy Feet won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature but did not win the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature. There is a sequel to Happy Feet released in 2011.

Happy Feet is a 2006 Australian-American computer-animated musical family film, directed and co-written by George Miller. It was produced at Sydney-based visual effects and animation studio Animal Logic for Warner Bros., Village Roadshow Pictures and Kingdom Feature Productions and was released in North American theaters on November 17, 2006. It is the first animated film produced by Kennedy Miller in association with visual effects/design company Animal Logic.

Happy Feet, the first of a wave of new animated movies starring the tuxedoed birds, takes us to the playground of the penguins, Antarctica. There, reenacting a sequence from March of the Penguins, the mothers go off fishing while the fathers stay behind and warm the eggs. When the fishing expedition if over, Norma Jean (voice of Nicole Kidman) returns home to her hubby, Memphis (Hugh Jackman). She then meets her baby boy, Mumble (Elijah Wood), who's a little abnormal. Instead of singing like most Emperor penguins, he dances. To exacerbate matters, when he tries to croon, the noise that emerges sounds like the death cry of some horribly injured creature. Convinced he has no chance to win the love of Gloria (Brittany Murphy), he leaves the conclave of the emperor penguins and hooks up with Ramon (Robin Williams) and his crew. They belong to a different species and are more open to Mumble's "happy feet." Soon, accompanied by his new friends, he sets off to solve the mystery of why the supply of fish has dried up, threatening to starve the penguins.

The youngish audiences for this movie may not agree with me. George Miller's original "Happy Feet" (2006) grossed $385 million and won an Oscar for best animated feature, and here again is the hero Mumble (Elijah Wood), now with a young son, Erik (Ava Acres). The two of them and perhaps a dozen other penguins, krill, seals and puffins are developed as characters; the thousands of others are as alike as members of a marching band. Some whole species are denied individual status; the birds are merely birds, and although we share the suffering of the krill as they risk being eaten, there is no sympathy for lots of fish that are gobbled alive.

New releases were a source of happiness on the home market as they first one - two this week. Leading the way was Pursuit of Happyness with an impressive $9.95 million while fellow happy release, Happy Feet, placed second with $8.26 million. More...DVD Releases for March 27, 2007March 26th, 2007

After weeks of mediocre box office results, the box office finally started to show some life this past weekend, but even so, only one of the three wide releases beat expectations and the overall box office was still down more than 6% from the same weekend last year. However, with an overall box office of $121 million there was still growth of 25% from last weekend and we'll take the good news where we can find it. Three new releases hope to put a bit of cheer into the box office, a box office that has been far from impressive the last couple weeks. Not since Happy Feet and Casino Royale opened has any film really been able to set the box office on fire. Or even just beat expectations by a significant margin. This week should have given us the first $40 million film of the month, but the tracking numbers are just not there. More...International Top Five - Casino's Straight ContinuesDecember 14th, 2006

2006 has hit a real losing streak since Happy Feet and Casino Royale opened three weeks ago. This week only one of the four wide releases matched expectations while their combined box office was well below last year's number one film. And while the overall box office was up 4% from last weekend at $97 million, it was down a huge 22% from the same weekend last year. Things need to turn around soon, or ticket sales may dip below last year's pace. More...Holidays are Upon UsDecember 8th, 2006

Over the weekend all the holdovers were within a rounding error of expectations, but none of the new releases were able to come close to that. This left the overall box office down 42% from last weekend at $93 million. However, it was a post-holiday weekend and the large drop-off should surprise no one. Compared to the same weekend last year, the overall box office was up 7% and that is a much more significant figure. The first weekend of December rarely brings us a big blockbuster, and this year is no different. Three films open wide, or in varying degrees of wideness, but none look to have the chops to take first place. More...Thanksgiving Can't Get Enough of LeftoversNovember 28th, 2006

As was the case last year, the Thanksgiving long weekend was dominated by holdovers, with the number one film earning almost as much as the four new wide releases combined. Over the 3-day weekend the total box office was $162 million, which was more than 10% higher than last weekend but more importantly it was just over 2% lower than the same weekend last year. Over 5 days the top ten pulled in $197 million, or about 5% lower than the same weekend last year. More...International Details - Devil Drops Out of Top FiveNovember 26th, 2006

The Thanksgiving long weekend marks the beginning of the holiday season and is traditionally one of the biggest weekends of the year. This year is no exception with four films opening wide, and two others adding a massive number of theaters. However, despite the glut of new and expanding films, there's a very good chance that it will be a holdover that claims the top spot over the weekend. Bobby finished on top of the Per Theater Chart this weekend after taking in nearly $70,000 in two theaters for an average of $34,520. That was more than $10,000 above its nearest competition, Volver, which pulled in an average of $24,095 during its third week of release. For Your Consideration placed third on the charts with an average of $16,174, which is a really good start, but still well below the average opening for Christopher Guest's previous mockumentaries. In fourth was the first of two wide release to top $10,000 as Casino Royale scored a very impressive $11,891 in 3,434 theaters. The re-release of Two or Three Things I Know About Her earned $11,214 in its lone theater, while Flannel Pajamas brought in $11,069, also in one theater. Finally we have the overall box office champ, Happy Feet, with an average of $10,918. More...Potter Pushes Penguins to Top SpotNovember 21st, 2006

There were a few surprises on the charts this week, including the number one film. But overall things played out almost exactly as expected, leading to a total of $146 million at the box office. This was 15% higher than last weekend but 19% lower than the same weekend last year. However, that was the weekend when Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire opened and no-one was expecting this year to be able to keep pace. What do penguins and secret agents have in common? (Not counting the fact that they both wear tuxedos.) Not a whole lot. However, movies featuring both will be in a close battle this weekend for top spot on the box office charts. Personally, in these battles I usually put my money on the guy with the gun, but cuteness might win out. More...2006 Preview: NovemberNovember 1st, 2006 041b061a72
